As the calendar turns to November, and we begin sweater weather in earnest, I wanted to use this blog post to talk to you about ... mugs.

Boring topic? Maybe. It's hard to get more mundane, more everyday – more basic – than the thing that holds your morning coffee, right? And yet, you hear people talking about drinking coffee or tea as their "morning ritual," implying something that's just a little bit sacred.

Your mug is the physical thing you hold closest as you start your day. As your connection to caffeine – a lifeline, some might say – it's never far away, whether you're cupping your hands around it for warmth or you've set it on the table next to you, always within arm's reach. The smell of it wakes you up a bit; the taste of it makes you feel human again.

And the mug itself matters – it's not just a vehicle for your caffeine fix. In a (relatively) recent survey, nearly 60% of people said they felt an emotional attachment to their mugs.¹ ☕ Which, honestly, seems low to me: what's wrong with the 40% who don't! 😆

How Do You Want To Start Your Day?

You may have noticed that the tone you set first thing in the morning – positive or negative – often has an outsized impact on how the rest of the day goes.

So how do you go about starting the day on a positive note? Well, first you need good coffee, or tea, or whatever your morning beverage of choice. I can't help you with that; I don't sell coffee or tea. (I'm happy to make some recommendations, though! Keep reading or contact me.)

For example, someone recently mentioned to me that the "Celestial Paradise" design, from a certain angle, reminds them of cream being blended into coffee. That's not something I'd intended, but it's a lovely idea. Thoughts?

Of course, mugs aren't just for mornings. All year long, we might enjoy a hot cup of something to sustain us in the afternoon or relax us in the evening, whether your drink of choice is herbal tea, or rooibos, or chai, or simply another cup of caffeine! Your regular drink may even have an autumn twist to it. Pumpkin-spiced coffee comes to mind, of course, but there are also different kinds of herbal teas that reflect the season. For example, I've come across Kristini's Teas at some local farmers' markets, and she's developed a number of herbal blends that reflect our moods and needs at different times of year. For example, she has an immune-boosting autumn blend that's full of fall spices, which I've drinking lately in the evenings, and she has a warming blend that I'm looking forward to trying next!

At any rate, each type of these hot beverages, whether energizing or soothing, sweet or bitter, nourishing or immune-boosting, puts you in a different type of mood. You may, like me, have more than one "favorite" mug and like to use different mugs for different drinks or even different times of day. Evenings feel different from mornings, and you may choose a different mug to reflect that.
